Yassine Balbzioui – SORRY HOUSE

„Sorry House“ is a work in progress. Yassine Balbzioui considers the project as a crossover of cinegraphy and art installation. Throughout the course of the exhibition that gallery space is a laboratory. The installation will constitute the context for the performance “Vogel Symphonie”, which the artist will present during the Finissage of the exhibition “PARADE”. Balbzioui first had the idea for “Vogel Symphony” during a residency in Berlin in 2011. In preparation of the exhibition “PARADE” he decided to refine and further develop the project. For him the interaction with space is a new way to work as the gallery has become his studio; A process, which he increasingly likes and wishes to continue within the framework of other projects.

Yassine Balbzioui – Shoes (video)

Yassine Balbzioui created the installation, videos, paintings as well as the masks in this room in dialogue with the Listros shoe boxes. The idea for the videos was developed from an experience Balbzioui had in Dakar in 2010. At that time, knowing nothing about the Listros project, he asked shoe shiners to rub his bare feet with black shoe polish. It was a spontaneous idea, which he did not and still does not consider as an artistic performance. Balbzioui enjoys spontaneous interventions without the label of “performance” or “art work”. But within the framework of the exhibition “PARADE” he decided to process his experience in Dakar and to transform it into an actual piece of art work. In reference to the idea of “hiding”, which is a main aspect of Balbzioui’s works presented in the gallery, he created “shoes masks”. The artists referenced the (big black) mask entitled “Double-Head” in four drawings, which he painted with his bare feet using shoe polish and acrylic.  The other masks are entitled  “Twin-Pinocchio”, “Frankenstein” ,”Blacula”, “Zombie”  and “Donkey” .
